Although this is a relatively new role, it is nonetheless a very important one. The duties have historically been part of the Secretary’s role, but as social media has grown and become more widespread, communications have become more diverse. It is simply common sense to have a ‘specialist’ in charge of information quality and distribution.

The duties of a Communications Officer are :

  • To distribute information to the Membership and to ensure that all outgoing communications are accessible to all Brethren. (ie does any Brother require the information in different or a more readable format?)
  • To promote Lodge activities and events the general / local public, the membership, other units, the Province (or Provinces) and where appropriate to UGLE.
  • To promote the benefits of membership to the public.
  • To promote the good (Charity, Benevolence etc.) that the Lodge, Province and UGLE do within the community.
  • To enable sharing between interested Members (e.g. WhatsApp Groups etc.)
  • To work alongside the website administrator to jointly promote the Lodge.

The Communications Officer should have skills in Social Media publication such as YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, SnapChat, TikTok etc.
